PSC to hold hearing

Published: Sunday, July 27, 2008 3:52 PM CDT
The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing in Jefferson City Aug. 18 to receive customer comments on water and sewer rate cases filed by the Aqua Missouri Inc.

If approved, monthly billed water rates - for a customer using 5,000 gallons - could increase from $15.95 to $24 in Jefferson City. Monthly billed sewer rates could increase from $27.75 to $63.48.

The company is seeking to increase annual water operating revenues by $63,330 and annual sewer operating revenues by $700,900 in its Jefferson City service area.

The meeting will be held in the Governor Office Building, Room 310, 200 Madison St.

A information session will start the meeting at 5:30 p.m. with a public forum held from 6-9 p.m.

Aqua Missouri is seeking to change its water and sewer rates for all 11 of its service areas in Cole, Callaway, Pettis, Greene, Benton, Taney, Christian, Morgan, Stone and Barry counties.

Aqua Missouri Inc. serves about 50 water customers and 1,620 sewer customers in Jefferson City.

" The city needs to take over this water utility, break it up, and give it to the public water districts already operating in Jeff City.

This turkey is nothing but poor service and ever increasing rates, with very little improvement to the local infrastructure. The profits keep going to the mother company overseas, and the customers in Jefferson City keep getting the shaft.

How many water mains have broken in the past two years?

Lucky for them, there might be enough rainfall this summer to avoid the annual Jefferson City water rationing.

I cannot believe the difference in water bills between county district and city water. City is almost 3x higher, but the pressure is much lower. "

" Didn't they just increase rate 3 or 4 years ago? They provide poor service, seem to provide little upkeep of existing infastructure and want to continue to increase rates. We moved and no longer deal with them, although our service now is no cheaper but we seem to have better customer service. "

" We receive our sewer "service" from Aqua Missouri. They are a total ripoff outfit.

In our subdivision, the developer built a small sewer treatment system, and hooked the septic tanks of each home into it. He then donated the system to the subdivision and Aqua now services the system. They want to increase our rates for a system in which they didn't even invest capital. They haven't improved the system at all, but claim they need the increase for "capital improvements already made".

I can't believe they are receiving a PSC hearing with all the complaints about them from ours and other subdivisions they "service".

Aqua Missouri is a corrupt company. "
