Mo. insurance agency nears $11M in complaint cases

Published: Wednesday, October 14, 2009 8:49 AM CDT
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri insurance department says its mediation efforts have helped return almost $11 million to consumers who filed complaints about insurers.

That figure is for the first nine months of the year. During that time, the department fielded almost 4,200 formal complaints about insurance companies.

The most common complaints included claims that were denied or delayed or settlements that were not as large as consumers desired. The department says the most complaints were received about health and homeowner insurance.
