March for Babies set April 17

March for Babies is the March of Dimes premier fundraising event that benefits all babies - those born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive.

The community is encouraged to attend the family friendly, fun-filled event beginning with registration at 12:30 p.m. April 17. The walk will begin at 1:30 p.m. around Jefferson City's Memorial Park.

Premature birth touches a half-million babies and their families every year including one in eight babies born in Central Missouri. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. More than 120,000 babies are born with serious birth defects that can mean a lifetime of disability. Babies born healthy need champions to be sure they have access to newborn screening and preventive health care. The March of Dimes is there for all babies.

Funds raised by March for Babies in Central Missouri support lifesaving research and local programs to educate the community about the importance of folic acid, smoking cessation and other educational outreach to families and health professionals.

To take part in the walk, visit www.marchforbabies.org or call the Central Missouri March of Dimes office at (573) 635-5350 to sign up as an individual; start a corporate, family or friend team; or to volunteer at the walk.
