Your Opinion: Explore adding conference center to project

Dear Editor:

Will the conference center get "lost in the shuffle?' Perhaps.

The Parks and Recreation Commission and Lincoln University are working toward a possible building project. Deadlines are implied.

Also, according to a recent Madeleine Leroux/News Tribune article, "Struemph and several council members brought up the possibility of using the city's lodging tax funds that previously were earmarked for a conference center."

This would be great if the new structure could also serve as a conference center. I admonish city officials to consider this approach.

I also admonish Lincoln University officials to reconsider their deadline. The deadline might make sense from the LU point of view. It might not make sense in the larger scheme of things.

Tourism for the City of Jefferson would also benefit Lincoln University. Any re-allocation of conference center funds should be preceded by extensive public hearings.

Let's not give up the conference center so easily. The possibilities are great if we can achieve greater cooperation.
