Your Opinion: Media engages in selective reporting

Dear Editor:

I'm writing this letter to ask a question of you, the editor of our only newspaper. It's Dec. 2, I went out into the cold to get my paper, looked through it and read what I considered of interest and then got on the computer.

I was surprised to see three website stories with headlines about a 32-year old Bosnian man killed in St. Louis at 1:15 Sunday morning. This was not an ordinary gun related killing but a brutal killing with a hammer! One report states that the attack was (allegedly) by three black teens and a Hispanic teen. The police are looking for a 16-year-old black teen and a 15-year-old Hispanic teen. One has got to wonder if or why the mainstream news media is ignoring or suppressing this story. Is it for profit in only reporting certain emotionally charged news stories that will not only sell, but at the same time create a life of their own generating more emotionally charged stories? Or is it because the media has been infiltrated and dominated with the anti-USA crowd intent on moving their culture destructive agenda forward regardless of the effect on law-abiding innocent citizens? I would guess it's a combination of both.

"One of the leading voices in the U.S. on the subject of Journalistic Standards and Ethics is the Society of Professional Journalists. The Preamble to its Code of Ethics states: ... public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility." ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journalism_ethics_and_standards ).

Of course, when we have a president and attorney general who essentially ignore their oath of office in the performance of their duties, why would we expect journalists to abide by an unbinding code of ethics?
