Audit questions Department of Agriculture pay raises

Schweich gives ag dept. overall 'good' rating

State Auditor Tom Schweich this morning questioned why Missouri's Agriculture department gave larger raises to 10 employees over the two years than most state employees received during the same time.

In a 21-page report released this morning, covering the 2013 and 2014 state business years, Schweich also reported that department employees failed to inspect some grain moisture meters and scales and some petroleum devices in 2013.

The auditor also questioned why the department has not worked harder to fill vacancies on several boards and commissions.

Still, overall, the auditor gave the department a "good" rating, which indicates "this entity is well managed."
