After one day of filing, Jefferson City voters can expect at least one race on the April ballot.

Three candidates filed for the mayor's office Tuesday - 3rd Ward Councilman Bob Scrivner, Leonard Steinman and Carrie Tergin. Mayor Eric Struemph announced in October that he would not seek re-election.

Scrivner has served on the council since 2008 and currently serves as president pro tempore for the council, meaning he acts as mayor when Struemph is unable to attend a meeting.

Steinman ran for the mayor's seat in 2011 and lost to Struemph. He most recently ran for the 3rd U.S. Congressional District seat in the August Republican primary, losing to incumbent Blaine Luetkemeyer.

Tergin has served six years on the City Council, losing her most recent bid for re-election to Glen Costales in April.

Incumbent 1st Ward Councilman Jim Branch filed for re-election, as did 3rd Ward Councilman Ken Hussey, 4th Ward Councilman Carlos Graham, Municipal Judge Cotton Walker and City Prosecutor Brian Stumpe.

Mark Schreiber filed to run for the open 5th Ward council seat. Incumbent Ralph Bray will resign Dec. 31 to take his new position as Cole County recorder of deeds.

No candidate filed for the 2nd Ward seat on the first day of filing, though incumbent Laura Ward has said she plans to file.

The city's filing period began Tuesday and ends Jan. 20. Offices open are: one council seat in each of the five wards, mayor, prosecutor and municipal judge. All are two-year terms except for the mayor, who serves a four-year term.

Elections will be April 7, 2015. A primary will not be held, as Jefferson City eliminated the municipal primary elections earlier this year. For information on candidate requirements or required forms, contact the city clerk's office at 634-6311 or visit www.jeffcitymo.org/clerk/cityelections.html.
