Your Opinion: Missourians, not courts, should decide gay marriage

Dear Editor:

It seems that since 30 states have made gay marriages legal, our state should be one of "inclusion not exclusion."If we were told to jump over a cliff (and isn't that what we've been told) would we go jump?

I'm still trying to absorb the fact that marriage is part of the equal rights and protection amendments, 10 and 14. For some reason I've totally missed that portion of the United States Constitution.

I have read that states are entitled to self-government. I believe part of the United States Constitution again. Since when did Missouri decide to no longer abide by self-government.

Why do "we the people" bother going to the polls and voting on amendments to the Missouri Constitution when apparently whenever someone gets a little ticked our state amendments can just be tossed out.

It's my understanding the court, judicial system, is to interpret the laws not maneuver them around to suit their own political agenda or pockets.

When are we going to grow up and stand up for ourselves. It's time our state stood up for its beliefs and laws. We do not have to follow suit, we do not have to jump over the cliff with all other states. But it looks like we're ready to complete the jump.
