1 charge dismissed in missing man case

The investigation into the murder of a Jefferson City man is continuing, but a charge against a man authorities believed may have been involved in the crime has been dismissed.

The Christopher Cray case went from a missing person case to a homicide on July 1, after police determined there was little chance of finding the 23-year-old safe. On May 20, Cray was last seen in the area of Schnucks grocery, 1801 Missouri Blvd. His abandoned vehicle was recovered in Jefferson City on May 26.

For almost a month, police searched the city landfill for Cray's remains, due to information received from one of the persons charged in connection with this case, but never reported finding anything connected with the case.

Nor has Cray's body ever been found.

This week, Richard Love, 25, Jefferson City, was sentenced to five years in prison immediately after pleading guilty to a charge of distribution of a controlled substance near public housing in July.

He had been charged with tampering with a witness in the Cray case, after he allegedly threatened a person not to tell authorities what they knew about the investigation into Cray's death.

That charge has been dismissed.

The other man charged in the Cray case, Adam Moore-Duncan, 25, Jefferson City, is scheduled to be in court next month for tampering with physical evidence, after he allegedly took a trash cart to the landfill and disposed of the cart in the customer self-serve dropoff. Video shows him entering the landfill at 8:15 a.m. May 22.

Detectives also have been investigating other leads through interviews, statements and other sources.

Police officials said due to the nature of the investigation, they cannot release the content or context of that information as it may jeopardize the investigation.

Under Missouri's Sunshine Law, "investigative reports of all law enforcement agencies are closed records until the investigation becomes inactive."
