Your Opinion: Concerned about campaign contribution

Dear Editor:

I am writing to address Mr. Stumpe's bid for circuit court judge. I am very concerned that he didn't acknowledge the donor of his $100,000 campaign contribution or just return the money. Rather he tells us that this person's philosophy is in line with his. Really?

This tells the voters of this district how Stumpe would rule from the bench - justice to the highest bidder. I have seen his slick commercials portraying him as fighting for the little guy. Quite the difficulty as he will now be beholden to the donors of his fat campaign contributions rather than the families whose cause he supposedly champions.

This week we received a mailer from Stumpe painting Judge Joyce as "the most liberal judge in Missouri," because she threw out the voter ID ban. This ban has also been thrown out by the U.S. Supreme Court who realized its intent as voter suppression not, as Stumpe would have you believe, "political correctness."

He criticized her for rejecting the income tax cut paid for by Mr. Sinquefeld. This cut is already law for which Missouri will pay for years to come. Kansas has the same tax system and now their schools are in trouble and promised business that Kansas was going to receive has yet to materialize. Now Mr. Sinquefeld is looking to undermine public schools so that he and his ilk can turn Missouri into another business venture via charter schools.

Stumpe sure does keep nice company! And what about those radical environmentalists that Stumpe mentioned, the folks at Arrow Rock that just didn't want a hog farm so close to a tourist site? Maybe they could locate their hog farm right next door Stumpe.

I hope Judge Joyce serves for years to come. She has presided over the most difficult cases with professionalism and integrity. When Bustamante was tried Judge Joyce managed that trial such that both sides got their day in court even though the media was a constant presence.

Our community is the better for her Drug Courts and Veteran's Courts that lift people up and help them restore their lives. As a family we have had a case come before her and were treated with great respect. We are lucky to have a justice that follows the law and gives all who come before her their day in court.
