Your Opinion: How morally bankrupt have we become?

Dear Editor:

On the national scene it's another proud day for Missouri. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse politically there's more. Missouri is the only state in the nation that allows unlimited campaign and lobbyist gifts in an effort to buy their way into the state capital and the courthouse. As Mark Twain once said "We have the best government money can buy." The exceptions seem to be in the minority on that one.

Got mega bucks anonymous and out of state: Want to buy a judge? Currently justice is for sale in Missouri.

In a 2011 speech to legislators, former Missouri Chief Justice William Price Jr., a Republican warned "Judges who have been bought and paid for have not been the Missouri way since 1940 and they should not be the Missouri way in the future." I agree. Huge sums of money spent on behalf of anonymous donors have no place in judicial elections.

Just how morally bankrupt have we become under the disguise of supporting conservative family values? Conservative values absent of any concerns for ethics or Christian teachings? Seriously? In 2012 religious leaders warned us that unless we voted correctly the very salvation of our souls could be in jeopardy. Looks like "God's Own Party" is now for sale to the highest bidder.

God bless the almighty dollar anonymous and out-of-state. God bless the oligarchy for which it stands.

Gotta love the polished, professional, intellectually astute commercials purchased with that $200,000 campaign contribution. Portraying our current judge as an out-of-touch hippie with added psychedelic colors for emphasis.

As the ad says, "Groovy! Who actually gets paid to think up this sort of sophomore nonsense?
