The Missouri Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) hosted their sixth annual chili cook off Wednesday.

The "Cup of Chili Competition" proceeds go toward the BBBS programs. The event was held in front of the Prison Brews brewery and restaurant, which also competed.

The winner of the people's choice award was Chris Wood with Jefferson Bank, who made green chili with pork loin and green salsa. The celebrity judge's winner was Winter-Dent Insurance with their "Grandma's Old Fashion Chili."

"It is good to win and it was a fun day," Wood said. "I am glad to get out here and help the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program."

Participants paid $25 to prepare three to five gallons of their best chili. Opponents brought crock pots and generators as well as propane grills to fix their recipes on the spot. The teams began setting up around noon for the event that ended at 7:30 p.m.

"It is an opportunity for local business to come out and raise resources for the agency, as well as awareness of our program," said Lee Knernschield program director BBBS.
