Man gets probation for killing cat

A Jefferson City man has been placed on two years unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to misdemeanor animal abuse for shooting and killing a cat in March.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Roger Eveler, 52, of 1120 Cordell St., admitted to shooting the cat.

He must complete 20 hours of community service as part of his probation.

Eveler said he shot the cat because there are lots of loose animals in his neighborhood, and he didn't see any collar on the cat. He said there had not been any property damage done by the cat, and it wasn't causing him any problems.

The cat was shot once in the head with a pellet gun.
