Your Opinion: Fear mongering inhibits freedom

Dear Editor:

When you see obvious misleading information disguised as helpful, doesn't it float your boat? It does mine. George Laur's letter to you Oct. 27 did just that.

Does he really believe big bad corporations put waste into our air, streams and lakes? Gosh, I bet they hate puppies as well. It's as if the CEOs of business and the workers don't have families that like breathing clean air and drinking clean water.

Yes Laur is correct; China does not give a rat's rear end about pollution. I hardly think that because we are a freedom loving society that we are the same. You may think so, but I and many others adamantly disagree with you and do cherish liberty and freedom.

At best Laur's letter was misleading. A solution constantly looking for a problem is the EPA. The EPA which you defend wants to take control of ditch water. Yes plain old water that would collect on the back 40 acres (or behind your home) in a ditch after a summer rain shower would be under the control of the EPA. How nice. The EPA is not protecting our air, water (and climate?) they want to control it. There's a vast difference, Mr. Laur.

Coal is a valuable resource. Industry is becoming more adept at burning dirty coal and reducing pollution. The industry is evolving and improving. It is a part of our energy independence. Of course Obama said he would shut it down, and it's the only promise he's kept.

Wonder what Laur has to say about the evil Keystone pipe line.

I am not entertaining your suggestion that Americans are not smart enough to know where their food is coming from but you also seem to think that's an issue. It's called a global market. During the growing season, not to take advantage of the local farmers market is your fault. I like fruit in the winter. It's my decision what I buy, not the government's or any body else. If one is not smart enough to read a label, it's called Darwinism.

Yes Laur is right (or is that left?). We as voters need to do our homework and not vote for fear mongers and those that would inhibit our freedom and liberty. Let business do their business. The government is there, and I can assure you, they are not there as the solution, but the problem.
