Your Opinion: Protect God-given rights from anti-Christians

Dear Editor:

I'm writing to comment on the April 11 News Tribune Our Opinion piece "Does question of rights require an either/or answer?" I disagree with the conclusion "a reasonable answer is both."

I submit the following to further my opinion submitted by a letter published March 8 "Government takes rights." When a child is born, it has only one inherent need, which is survival. It also has complete uninhibited freedom, i.e. unlimited rights. One can argue where this instinct comes from, whether it's God or the stork but what difference does it make? It only makes a difference from the aspect of one's religious beliefs as to who actually is the creator of a child in a womb but whoever it is it's not the government! Isn't one of the child's God-given rights to urinate in the bed the first to deal with? Following then are efforts to remove its rights to hit its parents, throw toys, and make loud noises to get attention and other actions of rebellion it feels its entitled to as a God-given freedom.

The child then attends school, which is usually the first real exposure to legal limits on its freedoms. This is where it seems the debate starts as to who gives the child's rights, God or an authority (government.) For instance, does the school or government give the right to boys to use the girl's bathroom or did the child have that right all the time as a freedom granted by God until some authority previously removed that right? Therefore if the right for the boys to use the girls bathroom is granted, it did not come from government, it only reinstated a previously God-given right of freedom. Aren't we free to do whatever we want wherever we want and whenever we want until some legal authority places a legal restriction on the act? When a right is claimed to be granted by government, it actually is only to remove a previously instituted limit on a freedom or to take others' freedoms in exchange. Ergo, government cannot grant rights!

Our culture now consists of a minority of non-Christians who are intent on the substitution of government as God which then can be manipulated by protesters and lobbyists to include any deviant behavior they wish. If they succeed, then Christianity can be eliminated as a majority voice against biblical immorality such that the various anti-Christian minorities will be able to continue to destroy our God given and constitutionally guaranteed rights.
