Your Opinion: Commentary and polls on evolution

Dear Editor:

I was watching Special Report with Bret Baier on FNC Feb. 12 and George Will, conservative commentator, made the following statement concerning what Scott Walker, governor of Wisconsin, said when asked a question concerning evolution: "Because Jeb Bush came out of the block so fast and so forcefully he forced other people to get on the track and start running before they are ready, and some of them are going to stumble for that reason. Scott Walker has been asked about Syria and about ethanol, and his questions are not up to speed. That's not quite his fault yet. What is his fault is to not to be ready for a question like this because it's a standard way of trying to embarrass Republicans. Today is Darwin's birthday. He and Lincoln, arguably the two most important people of the 19th century, were born on the same day. We should be able to come to the terms with the fact when asked about evolution you say yes. And if one syllable of one word is not enough say Paleontology. Everything says evolution is a fact. Get over it"

There are several issues that George Will pontificates about that I agree with his assessment wholeheartedly, however there are some that it would be better if he would just remain silent. My mother once told me, "It is better to have people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and remove ALL doubt."

It has been my observation since President Eisenhower, that inside the beltway politicians and mainstream media news types think that we who live in fly over country, are just a bunch of rubes that can be ignored until they want us to vote for them.

"A new Gallup poll indicates where the American public stands on the evolution issue. The largest proportion of Americans, 42 percent, believes that God created human beings in their present form, with just 19 percent saying that humans evolved without the Lord's guidance.

Additionally, 31 percent believe mankind evolved, but with God guiding the process. In sum, Gallup found that at least 73 percent of the nation believes God played a role in creation."

Scott Walker has done more to help Wisconsin by accident, than most politicians in Washington have done on purpose. I will continue with evolution in my next letter.
