Your Opinion: Can we do more than imagine?

Dear Editor:

Can you imagine? A lady in a grocery store in Jefferson City offered to let me in front of her in a check-out line. I refused, of course, being stubbornly independent and self-sufficient.

On the way to my car she noticed my old T-shirt from a Christian music festival in Stoneridge Amphitheater and offered me a free magazine of Sports Locker. It is refreshingly positive, upbeat, good news. Wow! Can you imagine?

Mentioning the Christian music festival is a memory for me. I remember shaking hands with a relatively new music group (somewhat unique in their appearance, probably questionable welcome in our established traditional churches). The name of the group is Mercy Me and that was where for the first time I heard them sing "I Can Only Imagine."

Can we do more than imagine? Can we be polite? Can we be encouraging? Can we think about the other person? Can we recognize how good we have it here in the good old U.S.A.
