Families safe, but homeless after two weekend fires

Two house fires left two Cole County families without homes.

The first fire occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday night on Route BB, between Henley and Eugene.

Cole County Fire Protection District reports show the fire destroyed a single-story home.

When crews got on the scene, flames were coming from the eaves and the front of the home.

It took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control, but by that time the fire caused enough damage that the structure was considered a total loss.

All those who lived there got out safely and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire appeared to be unattended cooking.

The second fire occurred around 4 a.m. Monday at 8208 W. Brazito Road.

When fire crews got on the scene they found flames coming from the roof of the home.

It took about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control and contain it to the center of the home, but by that time the structure was considered a total loss.

The occupants of the home were out by the time crews got on the scene and there were no injuries.

The state fire marshal determined that an electrical problem sparked the blaze.
