Charges filed in Hy-Vee shooting

Two women were charged with shooting another woman in the parking lot of the HyVee gas station, Monday afternoon.

According to police reports, at about 7 p.m. Monday night, Tra'Nae Williams, 19, of Holts Summit and Kinyana Matthews, 19, of Jefferson City, turned themselves into police.

Tuesday afternoon, Williams and Matthews were each charged with one count of second-degree robbery.

Court documents show investigators talked with the victim, Ciara Kennell, 22, of Jefferson City, who was transported to a local hospital and then to Columbia due to the extent of her injuries. As of Tuesday, she was listed in serious condition.

During their interview with Kennell, she told investigators that she was meeting Williams and Matthews to sell marijuana in exchange for $140.

Kennell said that during the transaction, Matthews grabbed the marijuana out of her hand.

Kennell felt as if she was being "ripped off" and then retrieved a handgun from her driver side door.

A struggle ensued and all three women had a hold of the gun when it discharged and struck Kennell.

Williams and Matthews fled the area after the shooting.

Monday, at about 7 p.m., the suspects involved in the shooting of a 22-year-old Jefferson City female turned themselves into police and were subsequently taken into custody.

Jefferson City police detectives placed Tra'Nae Williams, 19, of Callaway County, and Kinvana Matthews, 19, also of Callaway County, under arrest for first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Both were transported to the Cole County Jail pending charges today.

The victim, Ciara Kennell of Jefferson City, was transported to a local hospital and then to Columbia due to the extent of her injuries, where she is currently listed in serious condition. The handgun used in the assault was located in the victim's car by detectives and was taken into evidence. Only one shot was fired.

A Jefferson City woman was shot in the upper chest after an altercation at a grocery store parking lot Monday afternoon.

Police reports show several 911 calls came in to the dispatch center around 1:30 p.m. reporting that a shooting had occurred at Hy-Vee, 3721 W. Truman Blvd.

When officers arrived they found the victim in a vehicle near the Hy-Vee gas station who was suffering from a single gunshot. Emergency rescue personnel were called to the scene and transported the 22-year-old Jefferson City woman to a local hospital for serious injuries.

According to witnesses and the victim, two females in another vehicle were talking to her when a physical altercation broke out, ultimately resulting in one of the females shooting the victim once with a handgun. The suspects then fled in a silver car westbound on West Truman Boulevard.

Jefferson City Police detectives were called to the scene and began investigating. Detectives were able to develop leads, and possible suspects were identified.

As of Monday evening, no specific information had been released on the suspects.
