Your Opinion: Other riverfront venues offer ideas

Dear Editor:

I have been to the Noren Access. I have walked down to the river and walked across the bridge using the bike access. I think it's fine just the way it is. Developing the riverfront on the south side of the river is where the investment should be made.

My family and I visited two riverfront areas while on vacation this summer. The first one was in Paducah, Ky., and the second one was in Chattanooga, Tenn. Our favorite was in Paducah.

The riverfront area had a sea wall painted with murals depicting the local history of the area. Buildings had markings of past flooding with the date and depth of the water. Fabulous restaurants and bars with live music and outside dining areas were all within walking distance. There were also retail shops and museums to visit as well. I would recommend the chamber head to Paducah, Ky., to check out what has been done there.

It would be nice to see the area near the old prison developed. I am not a fan of developing the "island" which would require a pedestrian walkway over the railroad tracks, but would appreciate a plan that developed several areas along the riverfront that allowed visitors to walk to and from local attractions like restaurants, museums and retail shops.
