Your Opinion: Congressman seeks pay hike

Dear Editor:

I recently submitted an opinion letter, and it was published by you concerning the issue of what I believe is the rapidly growing cancer of "Entitlement Mentality' in this country.

First off, I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you as always for allowing us readers the privilege of expressing our vastly varied opinions in your publication. I for one do sincerely appreciate that privilege.

Well, in case you or the other readers are not aware of it, they're at it again in a big way. This time it appears that one of our own Washington, D.C., lawmakers is heading it up. A Democratic Congressman, Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla., wants a pay raise now. And others like him are jumping on board with it. He says $174,000 per year isn't enough to live on. I've got an idea for you Congressman Hastings, quit.

It's not like you guys have helped reduce our $18 trillion debt. So perhaps you should get a real job without all those cushy government benefits and drop this selfish nonsense. Oh, just to jog our memories and for what it's worth. This is the very same man who was impeached as a federal judge in 1989 for taking a $150,000 bribe.

Please feel free to verify all of this. It's all out there for the willing and made very public by many legit sources if folks would just take the time to educate themselves on it. The end.
