Your Opinion: Calling attention to maintenance

Dear Editor:

Unlike some residents in the immediate area, this property owner does try to keep her home and land in good condition, but it is difficult to maintain the land as she would like when government bodies don’t do their share to maintain what they own.

We were forced to turn land over to the Highway Department for the right-of-way bordering the 179 ramp that runs off of U.S. 50 West. We had no choice in the matter as we learned our property would have been condemned. This is a tell-all about how our American government operates taking what it wants.

And it is strange that the Highway Department always states it is running out of money. It appears that funds most likely are going toward projects that do not classify as being that important or essential.

And perhaps, too, the lack of good management could enter the picture.

I really dislike criticism but sometimes it appears necessary when projects do not appear to be properly handled.

Approximately three weeks ago a large truck performed some work on the property in back of mine in the subdivision and upon backing out from that party’s driveway the driver must have swung off of same onto the right-of-way on my side, leaving wet tire makings in its path as the ground was still wet from recent rains. If I hadn’t noticed this I would not known what had taken place.

The disfiguration is on the right side of my driveway up toward the Schellridge turnoff.

A citizen doesn’t have to see something to know what has taken place. Unlike what the police chief told two of his officers one time.
