Truman’s birthday honored with closings Monday

Former President Harry S Truman’s birthday is a state holiday. Because today is the 132nd anniversary of his birth, the state will observe the holiday Monday.

State government offices and the courts will be closed, except for law enforcement and emergency services.

However, the Legislature will be in session Monday afternoon — the start of the General Assembly’s last week for the 2016 session — so legislative offices will be open.

Jefferson City government offices also will be closed Jefftran buses won’t be running, and parking meters will not be enforced.

Republic Services’ trash and recycling collections will run as normal, and the yard-waste drop off site, 2417 Southridge Drive, will be open its normal weekday hours — 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Although state government generally is closed, the State Archives, 600 W. Main St., will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

And the closings don’t affect the federal government, Postal Service, Cole County government (except the courts), banks and other financial institutions and most businesses — all will remain open as usual.
