Big eighth inning powers A’s past Renegades 10-1

CLARINDA, Iowa -- The Jefferson City Renegades wrapped up the month of June with a 10-1 loss Thursday night against the Clarinda A’s in MINK League action.

The Renegades scored their only run in the top of the second inning.

Colby Ott began the inning with a leadoff double, then advanced to third base on a groundout by Andrew Imgarten. 

Two batters later, Joe Hoerchler hit a two-out single, scoring Ott to cut Clarinda’s lead to 2-1.

The A’s scored both runs in the first inning on an error. 

In the third inning, Will Walsh hit a solo home run -- his third of the season -- to stretch their lead to 3-1.

The score stayed the same until the bottom of the eighth, when Clarinda scored seven runs.

Conagher Sands capped the inning with a two-run single for the A’s. 

Max Peterson had an RBI single, Walsh and Nathan Barksdale each hit a sacrifice fly and the remaining two runs scored on a wild pitch and an error.

Braydon Boyer was the starting pitcher for the Renegades. In 5⅔ innings, he allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Grayson Eierman threw 1⅔ innings of relief, striking out two and walking three, while Brennan Perkins recorded the final two outs of the eighth.

Hoerchler and Cole Wagner each had two hits for the Renegades, while Ott and Jack Matousek each added a hit.

Peterson drove in a game-high three runs for MINK League-leading Clarinda (17-7), while Walsh and Sands each had two hits and two RBI.

Michael Ramos was the winning pitcher for the A’s, striking out three and walking two batters in six innings. 

Walsh pitched the final three innings, striking out five and walking one.

Jefferson City (9-13), which has dropped its last four games, completes a two-game series tonight at Clarinda. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
