Senior living community Heisinger Bluffs in Jefferson City celebrated the opening of its new restaurant, open to residents as well as community members, on Friday.
"We want to be sure that we always are thinking ahead and improving so that things are always the best they can be for our residents," said Dianne Lowry, senior living counselor at Heisinger Bluffs, noting residents had a voice in the bistro's design. "This is kind of a cutting-edge improvement which differentiates us a little bit."
The Bistro at Heisinger Bluffs, located inside the independent living center's second-floor entrance at 1024 W. Main St., is open 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
"It will be a place for our Jefferson City community to enjoy breakfast or lunch and such a wonderful, healthy thing for our residents to be able to meet friends and family and community people in their home," Lowry said.
While meals at The Bistro are covered by Heisinger Bluffs residents' monthly fee, it will operate as a traditional restaurant for non-residents.
Lowry said she expects customers to include family and friends visiting residents, as well as many of the clubs and organizations that already meet regularly at Heisinger Bluffs.
"I think it might be some of the business community because it's so convenient to downtown," she said. "And there are a lot of professionals in Jefferson City who have reason to visit someone - whether it's a trust officer or an accountant or someone like that. A lot of them have told me it would be the perfect opportunity to combine a meal with visiting their clients."
The Bistro at Heisinger Bluffs offers a traditional breakfast menu and lunch options like soups, salads and sandwiches.
