BizBeat: KFC returns to Jefferson City

KFC will return to Jefferson City at a new Missouri Boulevard location.

Jefferson City's Historic Preservation Commission last week, approved a plan to demolish buildings at 1209 and 1211 Missouri Blvd. to build a new restaurant.

Ethan Rus, a representative from Kansas City engineering firm Burns and McDonnell, said at a Historic Preservation Commission meeting he's working with a franchisee to build the restaurant.

Jeff Kochtanek, a consultant with Burns and McDonnell, told the News Tribune a KFC will be built on the site, but he could not elaborate further.

KFC left Jefferson City in 2014 when then franchise owner Brian McCarty rebranded the eatery at 1923 Christy Drive as JC's Chicken with similar fried-chicken fare. JC's Chicken closed in July 2015, and Burger King replaced it later that year.

Other former KFC locations in Jefferson City include 1920 Jefferson St., where Culver's Restaurant is located now, and 2201 Missouri Blvd., where Love Sushi is located now.
