BizBeat: Religious shop moves to smaller location

After 19 years in its current location, Divinity Religious Gift Shop at 108 E. High St. will move to a smaller location in Jefferson City.

The shop, which sells religious gifts, outfits and other items, will move to 320 Jefferson St. in three weeks.

Owner Kenneth Amend said he hopes the move will help him fend off competition from internet retailers like Amazon.

To clear out excess inventory, the shop recently began a moving sale, looking to sell individual items like communion dresses that have been left over after others sold out.

After the move, much of the store's current inventory will remain in storage. Amend said his clientele now skews older because young people tend to buy their religious gifts online.

Over the years, the store has had three websites, none of which have stuck. After the move, Amend wants to create a website that helps the store establish a solid online sales presence.
