Mid-Missouri man gets 50 years for rape

A man currently imprisoned in the Missouri Department of Corrections has now been sentenced to 50 years in prison after a Cole County jury found him guilty in a rape case.

Following an October trial, Bobby Bishop, 41, was found guilty of first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy.

Authorities were contacted at the beginning of November 2016 about the case, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

A witness told investigators she and the victim, a girl under age 14, were in an abusive situation with Bishop from November 2014 to March 2015.

During a forensic interview at a facility in Columbia, the victim disclosed that Bishop had had sexual intercourse with her.

When interviewed by authorities, Bishop denied having any sexual contact with the victim but said it was "probable" he had the witness examine the victim for signs of sexual assault.

Bishop has been serving time in the Department of Corrections for a domestic assault conviction.
