Lighthouse Preparatory dean of student life resigns

By the time readers of the News Tribune's "Back to School" special section last weekend learned Shirley Marsh was to be dean of student life at Lighthouse Preparatory Academy this coming school year, she had already resigned from the position.

She resigned July 14.

"I'm just going to do the things that need to be done," Lighthouse Preparatory Academy's administrator Karen Crawford said of the temporary solution, as she will take on the responsibilities of the now vacant position.

Marsh did not immediately respond to questions from the News Tribune as to why she resigned or what was next for her. She was the acting dean of student life at Lighthouse Preparatory Academy in the spring after the former dean stepped down, and she was the interim dean of student life last fall.

This was to be her first full year in the position. Marsh had said her main goal was to work more with teachers and administrators toward "the same goal of producing kids who are happy and successful in life."

She also said she wanted to create more clubs and improve the athletic program by creating a policy that sets the standards for each sport.

Lighthouse Preparatory Academy offers boys' and girls' junior high basketball and boys' junior varsity and varsity basketball, according to its website.

The private, Christian and nonprofit school has 142 students enrolled for the coming year.
