Moniteau County collector appointed; office should open soon

With Ellen Ash's appointment as the new Moniteau County collector, the County Collector's Office should reopen soon.

Without a county collector, none of the regular collector's business can be conducted. No taxes can be collected, no receipts issued and no lost receipts replaced.

Ash said she was notified of the appointment by Gov. Eric Greitens on June 20. The letter notifying the secretary of state of the appointment was faxed to the Moniteau County Commission, which notified Ash.

With her appointment, Ash needs to be bonded. Once notification of bonding has been received, the Republican can be sworn in and she will seek the best time to reopen the office.

The office closed June 1, following the resignation of former Collector Cheryl Duvall, effective May 31.

Ash is retiring as superintendent of Jamestown School, after having spent 30 years in the field of education.

Ash, a resident of California, grew up near Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School.
