Firefighters respond to a call for extrication Wednesday morning at a construction site off of Hayselton Drive after a soil compactor overturned with the operator inside.

A construction worker was flown from Jefferson City to a Columbia hospital after a piece of equipment tipped over and injured him Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called just after 9 a.m. to Hayselton Drive, where a new subdivision is being constructed, officials with Cole County Ambulance and the Jefferson City Fire Department said.

It was unclear what caused the equipment to tip over. The worker was in a cab operating the machine and was trapped for approximately 15 minutes.

It took emergency crews about 10 minutes to get the man out through a window of the cab, and his injuries were described as moderate/non-life-threatening.
