Fire damages mobile home in Holts Summit

A Holts Summit mobile home was damaged in afire  Sunday afternoon.

Holts Summit fire, police and ambulance crews arrived on scene in the L&L Mobile Home Park to find fire coming out of two sides of the structure.

"Our crews went for an interior attack," Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Scott Pasley said. "After knocking down the fire from outside enough, we entered from the front door."

After getting the fire under control, crews began assessing the damage, Pasley said.

"The damage was mainly in the living room and kitchen," he said. "There was extensive smoke damage to a bedroom and bathroom."

Pasley said a back bedroom escaped the fire with only minimal smoke damage, thanks to a closed door.

"That door prevented the fire from entering the back of the home," he said. "A closed doorway buys a lot of time."

No one was home during the time of the fire, Pasley said. A cause for the fire has yet to be determined.

"At this time, it looks like the fire was started in the kitchen," he said. "Although, even after talking to the home owners, we are still not sure what started it."

A benefit account has been opened at Mid America Bank in Holts Summit for the owners of the home.
