Jefferson City man charged in Thursday burglary

A Jefferson City man is charged with one count of first-degree burglary for an incident that occurred Thursday.

Ishmel Martin, 21, had a bond of $25,000, as of Friday.

The break-in occurred at 3:40 a.m. in the 200 block of West Atchison Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

Martin allegedly forced his way into the victim's apartment through a window and stole several items.

Some of the items taken were located later in the yard of a neighboring apartment complex. That complex has exterior video cameras; looking at that video, authorities saw Martin carrying the victim's belongings into an apartment. Officers went to that apartment, took Martin into custody, and found more of the stolen items.

When questioned, Martin admitted to forcing entry into the victim's apartment and stealing items.

Martin had been serving probation for another burglary charged when this incident occurred.
