Local man gets 5 years for domestic violence

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to five years in prison for pleading guilty to a domestic violence charge filed in May.

Kevin White Jr., 25, will have his sentence run concurrent to any other prison sentence he currently is serving.

Jefferson City police arrested White after he tried to choke a woman he was living with in the 300 block of East Dunklin Street.

White was charged with second-degree domestic assault after he dragged a woman into the kitchen of the home, pulled her hair and hit her, and tried to choke her, according to a probable cause statement.

When police arrived, the woman had red marks and a scratch on her face. White denied anything had happened and told police he was trying to get away from the woman, according to the statement.
