Centertown man sentenced for stealing MoDOT fuel

A former Missouri Department of Transportation employee has been placed on five years of supervised probation for pleading guilty to filling his personal vehicle with fuel charged to his MoDOT fuel card.

Cole County Judge Dan Green also ordered Rodney Dale Whittle, 47, of Centertown, to pay $6,046 in restitution as part of his guilty plea to one count of felony stealing.

Whittle used the card and his personal identification number to buy fuel 173 times between Jan. 2, 2014, and July 2, 2016, charging the state a total of $5,971.42 for fuel that went to his personal vehicle, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol probable cause statement.

The patrol said Whittle told investigators at the time of his arrest that he had given his confidential PIN number "to approximately 10 former MoDOT seasonal employees over the past seven years."
