Man charged after drug search

A Jefferson City man has been charged with drug and weapons crimes after a search of an apartment turned up marijuana, $2,000 and a firearm, among other items.

Christopher A. Morris, 40, was allegedly in possession of 1.2 pounds of "high-grade" marijuana, the money, a digital scale, drug packaging and the firearm at a Jefferson City apartment he occupied with a woman, according to a Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement.

The items were found after a narcotics-related search warrant was executed Friday.

The marijuana was recovered from a locked safe that Morris possessed the keys to.

A 9mm Taurus handgun was recovered under a mattress in a bedroom Morris occupied, and ammunition for the gun was found inside a nightstand along with items police determined belong to Morris.

Morris has multiple felony convictions that prohibit him from possessing a handgun, according to the probable cause statement.

The woman who lives with Morris told police she knew Morris sold marijuana.

Morris was charged Monday with the class C felony of delivery of a controlled substance, the class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon and the class C felony of unlawful possession of a firearm.
