Home destroyed in New Bloomfield fire

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. - A New Bloomfield family's home was destroyed in a Monday morning blaze.

No human residents were hurt in the fire in the 3700 block of Callaway County Road 430, though two family pets didn't make it out.

"They did lose two of their dogs, so they're kind of heartbroken about that," said Travis Bell, fire chief for the New Bloomfield Fire District.

The fire district was notified of the trailer fire at 6:58 a.m. and arrived on the scene in less than 15 minutes, Bell said. Trucks remained on scene until about 11:30 a.m.

"It was a complete loss," Bell said, adding that he didn't yet have a monetary estimate of the damage. "The cause is still under investigation - as of right now, we're not leaning one way or another."

Bell said that while the homeowners didn't want to have their name released as "they're private people," he's familiar with the family and knows they have a place to stay.

"The Red Cross has been notified and they'll take care of them," he said. "A church in Holts Summit gave them a gift card to help out. For now, they're staying with family locally."

Bell noted that smoke detectors within the residence functioned properly.
