A New Bloomfield man has been charged after leading Jefferson City police on a chase that ended Sunday night in Callaway County.
Devon Branson, 19, is charged with resisting a lawful stop and driving while impaired.
A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows Branson did not stop after an officer tried to pull him over in the 3600 block of U.S. 50 for driving an improperly licensed vehicle.
The Callaway County Sheriff's Office was requested to assist with the pursuit as Branson left Jefferson City and went into southern Callaway County.
Branson got onto eastbound Missouri 94, subsequently traveling through Tebbetts and Wainwright. Callaway County deputies were positioned near the intersection of Missouri 94 and Route C in Mokane with tire-deflation devices, but Branson got onto Route PP, just before Route C.
The pursuit continued on PP until Branson crashed on County Road 440. A passenger in the vehicle remained inside while Branson fled the crash on foot resulting in Callaway County Sheriff's Office K9 Iro being deploying. K9 Iro tracked Branson down, and he was taken into custody.
When questioned by authorities, Branson admitted to consuming alcohol, marijuana and Klonopin earlier in the night. When asked why he ran from authorities, Branson said, "Because I don't like you all."
Court records show Branson was on supervised probation for a narcotic offense in April when he was arrested.
