A convicted felon from Fulton was arrested Monday after being found with firearms, said Lt. Curtis Hall, of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

Brett Welsh, 31, faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of an illegal weapon and driving while revoked.

At 4:46 p.m., a deputy patrolling on Route Z near Wood Street spotted Welsh driving a vehicle. The deputy recognized Welsh and recalled his driver's license was revoked, Hall said. Welsh was arrested on Route Z near North U.S. Business 54.

While searching Welsh's vehicle, the deputy uncovered two firearms and a silencer, Hall said. Welsh has been convicted of felony offenses, including driving while revoked/suspended in 2012, according to Missouri Casenet records.

Under law, it is unlawful for those convicted of felonies to possess firearms, Hall said.

Additionally, on Oct. 18, Welsh was charged with armed criminal action, second-degree assault and two counts of first-degree domestic assault, all felony offenses. The trial for those charges has not yet taken place. According to Missouri Casenet, a warrant for his arrest on those charges was served Dec. 30 in Cole County.

On Jan. 12, a bond of $50,000 was posted for Welsh.

Following his arrest Monday, Welsh was taken to the Callaway County Jail to be held without bond pending a bond hearing, Hall added.

More charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
