Chase leads deputies through multiple counties

Investigators recovered a handgun and about 3 pounds of marijuana after a chase through four Mid-Missouri counties that ended in an arrest late Tuesday morning.

At about 10:25 a.m., the Miller County Sheriff's Office received reports of a stolen vehicle near Eldon.

Morgan County deputies responded to Missouri 52, where they saw the reportedly stolen vehicle traveling westbound near Big Rock Road. They attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it sped away.

The vehicle went into Versailles, where deputies attempted to deploy tire-deflation devices. However, the driver avoided the devices, then continued north on Missouri 5.

The Missouri Highway Patrol also deployed the sticks near the Moreau Creek bridge, south of Fortuna. Again, the driver avoided the sticks.

Tipton police officers also tried to stop the vehicle near Route NN, but failed. In Tipton, the chase turned westbound on U.S. 50 and went into Pettis County. Several more attempts to deflate the vehicle's tires failed.

At one point, a stick was able to deflate the right rear tire of the vehicle, which continued to flee.

While trying to avoid tire-deflation devices near Rissler Road and U.S. 50, near Sedalia, the driver lost control and spun out, traveling into a ditch.

Officers then took the driver into custody. The driver's name is being withheld pending charges being filed.

During the pursuit, schools in Stover and Versailles were placed on lockdown in case the driver was armed.
