Princess Party to raise funds for childcare center

First United Methodist Church is to be the site of the inaugural Princess Party to raise funds for Little Explorers Discovery Center.

The event, which will feature more than a dozen princesses like Belle, Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine and Rapunzel, is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the church, 201 Monroe St.

It will feature a royal performance from members of the Helias Drama Club, Jefferson City High School Student Council and a few local princesses in full costume (one dressed as Snow White is a certainty), center Director Donna Scheidt said.

Tickets for the event are $25 and are required for adults and children. They may be bought at the center, 1002 Myrtle Ave., or at facebook.com/littleexplorersdiscoverycenter.

"We want this to be a magical afternoon for children," Scheidt said. "I believe it will be a magical afternoon."

Children who attend the party will receive an autograph book, in which they may collect signatures from their favorite princesses. They will also have opportunities to get their photos taken with the princesses.

Sponsors have already paid for some tickets that will be distributed to clients who otherwise couldn't afford them, Scheidt said.

A number of Prince Charmings will be available to escort the ladies to their seats, she added.

The center tries to get its client families involved in fundraisers, according to Kristal White, assistant director of the center. When it does fundraisers, it focuses on events that are kid-friendly because so many of the center's parents don't have available childcare.
