The Miller/Cole County U.S. 54 bridge improvement project will continue Monday with rehabilitation of the westbound and eastbound U.S. 54 bridges over Wrights Creek. The bridges, built in 1972, are 5 miles northeast of Lake Ozark in Miller County.

Work on the bridges will reduce eastbound and westbound U.S. 54 traffic to one lane in each direction around the clock through mid-November, according to a Missouri Department of Transportation news release. Work involves deck repairs and the application of a new concrete overlay.

Electronic message boards are installed in the area to warn of the lane closures.

The bridge rehabilitations are part of a larger plan by MoDOT to improve and extend the life of nine bridges between Brazito and the Lake of the Ozarks during the next 10 months.

Rehabilitation work is active on the U.S. 54 bridge over Little Gravois Creek, about 7 miles south of Eldon and about 0.3 miles west of Route V in Miller County. Westbound U.S. 54 traffic is reduced to one lane in the work area through the end of October.

The other bridges included in the project are:

  • U.S. 54 eastbound and westbound over Old Tuscumbia Road (both constructed in 1973).
  • U.S. 54 eastbound over the Rock Island Railroad, east of Missouri 87 (built in 1973).
  • U.S. 54 eastbound and westbound over Business 54 (both constructed in 1973).
  • Missouri 17 over U.S. 54 (built in 1972).

The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of June 2019.
