The expected completion date for a road construction project in Fulton has been extended to next spring, City Engineer Kyle Bruemmer said.

General contractor Rhad Baker said weather will determine the date of completion on Fulton's West Fourth Street project, as the temperature needs to be about 50 degrees to lay the road surface.

"Therefore, I anticipate construction to run into the spring of 2019," Bruemmer said.

This project includes underground electric and communications, decorative lighting, new storm sewer, curb, large sidewalks, street pavement and enhancements to an existing traffic signal. The project extends from Westminster Avenue to Nichols and potentially Court Street on West Fourth Street.

The contractor is exploring removing a barricade and opening up Pioneer Drive's connection to Jefferson Street to allow Fulton Housing Authority tenants to maneuver while work is affecting Pioneer Drive's typical connection at Fourth Street, an adjacent project also being completed, Bruemmer said.

Contractors continue work on the city's portion of the U.S. 54 project - from the roundabout on the south side of downtown Fulton north to about Walgreens. They recently switched from the east side of the north/south road to the west side.
