A Westphalia man was recently charged for the theft of a U-Haul auto trailer from a Jefferson City towing business in August.

Drew G. Buersmeyer, 34, has been charged with stealing - a class D felony. On Aug. 31 - Buersmeyer's birthday - he admitted to taking a U-Haul auto-hauler trailer at approximately 11:30 p.m. that night from Affordable Towing in the 2700 block of Eagle Drive.

"Buersmeyer has not responded to law enforcement request to obtain a statement and has refused further contact with the victims requests to get the trailer back," according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement filed Friday.

"Buersmeyer's vehicle was observed on surveillance video at the victim business and was positively identified by the reporting person. Officers were also in contact with Buersmeyer during an unrelated incident Sept. 1, where they observed Buersmeyer's vehicle hooked up with the U-Haul trailer," the probable cause statement added.

Buersmeyer was in custody at the Cole County Jail on a no-bond warrant Wednesday, jail staff confirmed.
