Callaway County’s anti-domestic violence board’s funding plans for 2020 were unanimously approved Thursday morning by the County Commission. The two organizations that will receive funding in 2020 will be the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence in Fulton and Rape and Abuse Crisis Service in Jefferson City.

Callaway County commissioners unanimously approved the Anti-Domestic Violence Board's funding plans for 2020 on Thursday.

The board's responsibility is to disburse funds to local entities that provide housing for victims. Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence in Fulton and Rape and Abuse Crisis Service in Jefferson City are this year's funding recipients.

"The way the system works is that the board gets together and they come to us with their decision, and it's our job to either agree with that decision or to make that decision on what it is we want to see happen," Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann said.

Member Karen Rentschler said the board held its first meeting Oct. 30 and reviewed the applications from CARDV and RACS. The board agreed to award 90 percent of the funding to CARDV and the remaining 10 percent to RACS.

"(The commissioners) accept the board's recommendation to proceed with the 90/10 percent split between the two entities," Eastern District Commissioner Randy Kleindienst said.

Rentschler said the board will have approximately $8,000 in funding for 2020, which is lower than the usual $10,000. The board's funding comes directly from fees paid to the county for marriage licenses and the like, and this year's numbers were lower than usual, she said.

The funds will be disbursed in two increments, once in January and the second in July, Rentschler said. The board will convene in fall 2020 with representatives from applying nonprofits to plan 2021 funding.

The board members were appointed in September and include Rentschler, Kelly Trigg, Dr. Thomas Cooper, Tim Borman and Kellie Pontius. All members were appointed unanimously and will serve a 15-month term from Oct. 1, 2019, to Dec. 31, 2020.
