Winter weather leads to multiple wrecks

A crash in Miller County involving two male drivers caused minor injuries Friday.

The Missouri Highway Patrol responded to a call at 1 p.m. on U.S. 54 East. According to the report, Stephen Smith, 66, of St. Charles, slowed for traffic ahead and drove off into the median to avoid a collision. The report said a second vehicle, operated by Thomas Patton, 77, of Moberly, slid off the roadway due to the snowy conditions and struck Smith's car.

Patton and passenger Diane Wilhite-Patton, 67, were transported to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

The Pattons and Smith were wearing seat belts.

A multi-car accident Friday afternoon in Osage County injured three.

Gabriel Baybe, 76, of Licking, lost control of his GMC 1500 Pickup around 12:45 p.m. traveling northbound on U.S. 63, near Route E, according to patrol reports. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a southbound Ford Escape, driven by Sophia Cummins, 17, of Freeburg, and a Toyota Rav 4, operated by Leora Counts, 70, of Vichy.

Leora Counts and passenger Junior Counts, 72, sustained minor and moderate injuries, respectively, and were transported by Osage County EMS to University Hospital in Columbia.

Baybe was transported with minor injuries to Capital Region Medical Center.

All drivers were wearing seat belts.
