Painting party to raise funds for Russellville athletics signs

A painting party to support Russellville school athletics next week will make those who attend feel like artists.

Brushing Up owner and artistic director Christy Proctor will guide guests in their canvas paintings.

The booster club fundraiser is at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Humpy’s Bar & Grill, 13211 Railroad Ave. Funds will go toward purchasing two new signs for the Cole County R-1 School District’s track and baseball fields.

The event costs $25 to attend. Proctor will provide all the supplies needed, including a canvas, paint, brushes and music.

The event can accommodate 20 guests, but a waiting list will help fill spots if there are cancellations. Supporters are welcome to stop by and drop off donations.

The signs will read “Home of the Indians,” booster club Vice President Donna Roe said. The club hopes a few more fundraisers will raise what they need to purchase the signs.

“We’re hoping to have the track sign up before school is out,” Roe said.

The booster club raises money for fall, winter and spring athletics.

“We provide half of the uniform cost, and the school covers the other half,” she said. “Last year, our big purchase was the mat by the high jump.”

They also cover banquets for athletes and families, help with equipment and purchase items on coaches’ wish lists, she said.

Another booster club painting party is planned for April.
