A Jefferson City man has been charged with first-degree statutory sodomy.

Rocky Steinmetz, 40, is alleged to have committed the crime between Aug. 1, 2018, and May 31 of this year, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

During a visit to a local hospital in June, family members of a child younger than 10 told authorities they believed this was taking place.

Authorities said they later did an interview with the child, who claimed Steinmetz had inappropriately touched her on several occasions. Authorities also claimed the child gave consistent details of each alleged incident, including estimated dates.

Investigators said Steinmetz refused to be interviewed or provide any statements.
