Candidates sought for county extension council

Nominations are being accepted for the January 2020 public election of the Cole County Extension Council. New council members will be sworn in at the February meeting and will serve a two-year term ending in February 2022.

Members of the extension council are part of the University of Missouri Extension program, which works to give university-based knowledge from the four University of Missouri campuses to all counties of the state. Current program examples include:

• 4-H and youth development

• Master Gardener and Master Pollinator

• Food, nutrition and health promotion

• Workforce development

• Agriculture and natural resources

• Online and continuing education

Cole County residents may vote in the council election from Jan. 1-8.

Candidates are needed from three districts in Cole County: Two persons residing inside the city limits, one residing east of U.S. 54, and two residing west of 54. Candidate recommendations may be made by contacting the Cole County Extension Center, 634-2824, before Nov. 29. Nominees will be contacted to secure their permission before being placed on the ballot. Questions about the council may also be addressed by calling this number or by contacting any council member. Any adult resident of Cole County may be a candidate for the extension council.
