UPDATE: No threat found at Thomas Jefferson Middle School

Authorities reported Friday afternoon they had found there was no threat made against students at Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Jefferson City.

Jefferson City School District officials said in a news release that the Jefferson City Police Department completed its investigation into the possible threat that was circulating on social media earlier and concluded there was no threat to TJMS or any other school in the district.

The source of the original Snapchat post has been traced back to an incident in another state.

"Unfortunately misinformation can spread rapidly via social media, but we must take these situations seriously nonetheless as the safety of our students is our top priority," said district spokesman Ryan Burns. "We appreciate our law enforcement partners for working with us to resolve this as quickly as possible."

District officials said they did not lock down the school.

In a release to parents Friday morning, district officials said they were made aware of a Snapchat post which has been seen by several TJMS parents and students. The post, according to district officials, appeared to show a threat written on a wall in a school.

The Jefferson City Police Department is investigating to determine if the post was taken at TJMS, and if so, by whom. After searching the school, authorities were unable to locate the original source of the post or confirm it was taken at TJMS.
